Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among several Indian stars to be invited to Cannes
The French government specially invited actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the Cannes Film Festival scheduled for later this year that will also celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema, a senior diplomat said.
Aishwarya has been conferred on a civilian award by the French government for his contribution to the arts, on the occasion of his birthday last year.
Responding to a question, the French Ambassador to India Francois Richier told reporters yesterday that Aishwarya is always respected in France because of its association with the Cannes Film Festival.
“She is very dear to our heart and we are very grateful to her,” said Richier, who conferred the civilian honor of the actress on behalf of the French government.
“The Cannes Film Festival will be a special emphasis on the Indian cinema where we will invite the stars of the Indian cinema,” said the ambassador, adding that Aishwarya would also be invited.
French Connection Aishwarya is long, from the moment she supported a French cosmetic brand, he said.
